Praça da Alegria

This typical Portuguese apartment in the charming Santo Antonio district was divided into countless tiny rooms. It has been a complete renovation for this 45m2 property which happens to be Elsa Sibuet’s apartment.

To do this, she first redesigned the spaces for more comfortable use and meeting storage needs. A wall was knocked down to create a spacious suite with its adjoining bathroom; then another in the entrance for a much more welcoming space where custom closets were designed by the architect. The kitchen was moved to the room overlooking the living room.

Real structural work, insulation, pipes and electricity has been carried out in this apartment which is more than a century old. The original parquet flooring was recovered and turned out to be a marvel!

For her own apartment, Elsa set no limits in terms of design. She drew her inspiration from her favorite period, the one that inspires her the most: the 60s/70s. We find the rounded shapes with the arches of passages from one room to another, the colors of terracotta, the carpet of the bedroom, the graphics of the cement tiles or even the wavy design of the closet doors.

At home, Elsa used color as usual in residential areas: in the passage rooms like the entrance/kitchen/wc. Living rooms where we spend more time sitting or lying down are in neutral, calmer colors. Rather than a clinical white, the decorator always prefers to use beige, which makes the space much warmer.

To give a touch of elegance to the apartment, Elsa added large white cornices and skirt board.

Finally, a great tip for small spaces, an entire wall in the living room has been covered in mirror, giving the impression that the space and light are duplicated.
The change is astonishing. The apartment has become a hyper feminine, cozy and comfortable little gem; the perfect place to work on your projects !
